Saint Michael in Forum

Saint Michael in Forum

In the middle of the ancient orifice of the Roman city, a church was set up in the 8th century, named after Saint Michael, which was then annexed to a hospital and a monastery. Its renovation started around 1070. San Michael is a church with a Latin cross plan strongly influenced by the Pisan Romanesque style. The fa├žade is adorned with four orders of loggias and surmounted by a large marble statue of the archangel Michael, with metal foil wings in the act of defeating a dragon with a spear.
